Repair

I have a BE database that is now giving the following
error "The database ... needs to be repaired or isn't a
database file."

I answered "Yes" to have Access try to repair, and got the
following program error "MSACCESS.exe has generated errors
and wil be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the
program."

I got out, rebooted, and tried again. This time it did not
give me the program error. However the progress bar
immediately went to about less than one-half, and it is
just sitting there (now for about 30 minutes). I checked
the task manager and it shows that it is running. Is it
really trying to repair the db?

How long can a repair take? I'm running Access2000, and
the db is 8356 KB. I have a speedy workstation with lots
of ram. The only slowdown would be the network traffic.

Should I just continue to let it run?
How long should I continue to let it run?
Is there any thing else I can try?
All advice is very much welcomed.

Thank you in advance
God bless you

You mention network traffic. If the MDB is on another PC on the network, it
might be worth copying it to the local hard disk and trying to repair the
local copy.

A large MDB (hundreds of MB) can take a long time to repair, but if an 8MB
MDB on a local hard disk hasn't repaired after 30 minutes, I would say it's
probably never going to.

Thank you Brendan for your reply.
I copied the db to my local drive, and have the same
problems. Is there anything else I can try? I can restore
the file from two days ago (backup) however, then we loose
two days worth of transactions.

Please advise
God bless you
