Repaired PST-files won't work

Jørn Johansen

I got two computers in my network at home, both with Outlook. Then I
installed a NAS-disk drive to my router. I then merged two PST-files (two
accounts, one on each computer) and placed the PST-file on the NAS-disk drive.
This worked fine for some weeks, until I got an error message saying I
needed to repair the file with SCANPST.EXE. I do - and get "OK repaired" (in
Norwegian). But most of the time I get the same error message when I try to
open the file in Outlook (I start Outlook, don't doubleclick the file though
I tried that too).
The file size is 171 000 kb.

Does anybody have a suggestion; what should I do?

The first thing you should do is moving the pst-file back to your local hard
drive. Connecting to a pst-file stored on a network share is not supported
nor recommended by Microsoft. It leads to poor performance and could also
lead to data corruption or total data loss; exactly what you are
experiencing right now. Additionally note that a pst-file can have only 1
active lock on it. Accessing a single pst-file with 2 Outlook configurations
actively using it is not possible.
