"Repeat" function cuts off first letter?

When I use the "repeat" function (edit/repeat or control-y) to replace words
(e.g., two for 2), the first letter gets cut off and I wind up replacing 2
with "wo". This happens consistently with any replacement over 1 character.

When you have replaced text by typing over it, the first letter counts as
the replacement and the rest as "Typing." These are two Undo/Repeat steps.

Aha. Another new "feature" from Microsoft.

Yeah, it's bitten me in the behind a few times, too. It's logical, but that
doesn't mean I have to like it.

Well, I don't actually see the logic in it...I can't see the utility in the
function the way it's currently set up. I don't see the point in tinkering
around with something that worked very well previoiusly and making it
essentially non-useful.
