Repeatedly changing fill color in autoshapes

H

Heather

First, I want you to know how much I appreciate this discussion group being
here, it has helped me tremendously to be able to come and search for answers
to my numerous questions that never seem to be in the books. Thank You!

Now for my question- I am trying to get a box to change color repeatedly
during my presentation which is set in kiosk mode in 2003. I want the box to
go between two colors. I have tried using the "Change Fill Color" in
emphasis, and it will not let me repeat so that it goes back to the original
color and back and forth. I have also tried creating another box in the
second color and having it appear and disappear, but this will also not let
me automatically repeat. I can set up individual appearances and
disappearances, but I don't know how long each user will be on each slide,
and I really want this box to keep changing colors until the user clicks to
the next slide. Any ideas?

You should be able to apply an emphasis effect (change fill color), then
double-click the effect in the animation task pane to open the effect
options. On the Timing tab, choose to repeat "until end of slide."

It works here in Kiosk mode, but I had to set the animation to start "with
previous." It didn't want to work when I had it starting on mouse click, but
that may have been an issue with resources here. (I've got WAY too much open
right now!)

That's exactly what I was trying to do, and it wouldn't let me. The place
where it says "repeat" and "Rewind when done" were both greyed out. I tried
doing it on another object, using the same emphasis effect, and in another
file, but it still did the same thing. Every other time I use effects, it
allows me to repeat, but not the effects of appear/disappear or change fill
color.

And you're just working with a regular rectangle autoshape?

What are the exact settings you've used?

Sorry it took me a few days to get back.

Yes, I am using just a plain rectangle sutoshape.

I have tried many settings. The one that I thought would work the best is:
Add Effect>Emphasis>Change Fill Color
Then I go to Effect Options, and the "Auto-reverse" and the "Rewind when
done playing" parts are both greyed out as well as the "Repeat" part.

How is the animation set to start? I'm betting it's on mouse click. Try
changing it to "with previous" and see if that makes the "repeat" available.

I'm not sure that will fix it, though, because I'm not sure what's causing
the settings to be greyed out. I can't repro that here at all. Hopefully
someone else will chime in with ideas.

I think I just fixed it. In the box that allows to change the effect and
timing of the animation, I had the color going directly from the first color
to the second, and not fading between the two. When I have it fade, all of
the greyed out things show up again. It now will let me do what I want, so I
am happy. Thanks for your time!
