Repeating timesheet approval - hotfix?

D

Daryl

Hi all,

We are running MSPro and Server and are experiencing the problem that some others have mentioned (I think) where resource managers are having to constantly re-approve timesheets for their resources...meaning they go through the process of approving the timesheets and the reminder is removed from their home page on Project Web server...then the next time they go into project server the reminders to approve the timesheets are back!!! It is quite a nag! I am the administrator and I am experiencing it for my resources plus I am hearing from the managers!!! I am not sure if the reminders come back just on their own or only after I republish something? Should I be doing something else when we publish?

I did get a hot fix from Microsoft for the timesheet reminder (everyone would be reminded to complete their timesheet even after they completed it) - the hotfix corrected that problem...is there another fix for the other reminder problem? Should the hotfix I already received fixed the problem?

Is there a place to find all of the available hotfixes? I have tried looking though the microsoft download center many times but still find it difficult to find anything useful (i.e. I could not even find the hotfix I had by seraching for it's number/name!)??)

Can anyone shed some light on this...please.
Thanks

Sounds like you need to make sure they are allowing the
project to save after the updates are complete.

We are experiencing the exact same problem. We are making sure that the project is saved and updates have been published. We have also already loaded the hotfix as described in the initial message.

The specific problem is as follows:
1. Time is reported by an employee for a task that has been in progress across multiple time periods in the current time period.
2. The project is updated, saved and re-published.
3. On the home page for the resource manager, messages appear saying that they have timesheets to approve for ALL OF THE TIME PERIODS THAT THE TASK SPANNED THAT HAD TIME PREVIOUSLY REPORTED IN THOSE TIME PERIODS
4. The resource manager then must go and approve the time again for the task in each of those time periods.

Thanks for the feedback....good to hear we are not the only ones...is there any solution that you are aware of? That is the same situation as us - quite annoying as most of our tasks are a long duration and we are publishing quite frequently.

Do any of the MVPs know of Microsoft's position on this? a plan to corect? , another hotfix? Any help at all work to work around?

Chris:

You say "repulish" - is this what you mean? Do you use the republish
selection from the menu. Use of terminology matters. Republish has a
specific meaning in Project and shouldn't be used as part of your normal
update process.

I work with Chris and when he writes "republish", he is talking about the process of selecting: Collaborate - Publish - All Information. Would this push the information of the past timesheets back into the approval process? What would be your recommended way of updating projects? Also, we have had experiences where not all of the project information was updated without a major change to the project. Any thoughts on this issue?
