Repeats sending the same message

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and Outlook 2003. I am using IMAP
through my Gmail account. I sent a message to my brother with three
attachments for a total of 15 MB. Initially, it took a long time to send them
and in the middle I got an error message that it was having difficulty.
Eventually that cleared and it finished. However, my brother says that every
once in a while in the past two days, he receives the mail and attachments
again, over and over.
Is the problem in Outlook, Gmail or my server or all of the above? Can
someone help me with this?

These kind of issues often can be traced back by having a virus scanner
installed which integrates itself with Outlook. Uninstall/disable this
integration and try again.

Depends on which virus scanner you are using. Their documentation or support
channels should hold some information on how to do this properly for their
product.
In many cases, you'll have to fully uninstall the virus scanner and then do
a custom installation and choose not to install the email components.
