Replace cannot find Paragraph Mark

I need to replace what appears to be a paragraph mark in a big document.
There are 3 in a row. This document was a text file (.txt) that I opened in
Word 2002. When I wanted to get rid of 2 out of 3 of the marks, the
find/replace could only find 1 paragraph mark, the one at the end of the
document. So the mark looks the same, but it must not be. HELP ME. I have
done this before (last month) with no problems, so it must be an option
somewhere that got put on or off, I just don't know where.

Have you tried to Copy and Paste the 'rogue' paragraph marks into the FIND
box (note that you need to use the keyboard commands to copy/paste into the
FIND what box?

I tried to copy and paste into fine, it would just past a blank, so that did
not work. I did all the tricks from
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/CleanWebText.htm, but that did not help.
I tried my WORD 97 and it did JUST FINE! It was in another computer here,
so still am not sure why, so that symbol looks like a paragraph mark, but
must be something else.

Sometimes ^13 and ^10 both look like the pilcrow when displayed in a Word
document.

And paragraph marks right in front of tables can't replaced.
Which makes sense if you try to remove them in the replacement (because
tables can't be inline), but else is just an awful nuisance.
