Replace part of text string

I am trying to replace some text in several cells with an abbreviation so the
chart I am creating can be read more easily. Is there a VBA solution to
replace part of a text string with a different text string. For example, the
cell contains the words "Rear Axle Brake Hose" and I want to replace only
"Rear Axle" with "RA".

a quick search of the vba help would reveal the 'replace' function, jiffy
name for a function that does a replace don't you think???

Yes, I actually found that but was unable to get it to work, so I guess I
just don't understand it. I will continue to play around with it.
