Find a friend with the same version of Office, i.e. Professional, Small Bus.,
etc. and burn a copy of his. Office CDs aren't tied to a specific Product Key.
If you have a legal Product Key any CD will work and it's legal to use it.

They are when it's OEM. The only CD that will work in his system is a Dell
OEM CD, for that model of Dell system.

Well you didn't look very hard then did you?! As I'm feeling in a benevolent
mood tonight, here is the link http://tinyurl.com/rnon. Microsoft do not,
cannot and will not provide support for OEM installations (unless you pay a
$50 per incident support fee).

You are, of course, correct, once again, my dear. I should have mentioned that.
I, thankfully, have little experience with Dell, but is it not true that any
Dell OEM XP CD will work? So he could copy a friend's Dell CD? I ask for my
own knowledge base and future reference.

Cheers,
John

I, too, am blissfully unacquainted with Dell, but the way I see it is this;
Dell (probably) use the same master to burn CDs for a line of units (e.g.
the same batch of Dimension 8300s for example), so theoretically, if he had
a mate with the same model and from the same batch, it may work. *HOWEVER*,
I'm unfamiliar with the way Dell compile their recovery/rescue discs - it
may be that Office is installed along with Windows (which is BIOS-locked)
so, therefore, it wouldn't work a) because he'd have to copy Windows as well
and b) because the BIOS serial would be different.

But what do I know? ;o)

Blessings of the morning,

Cass
