Replacing quote / apostrophe

I have a text with straight quotes - I want to change quotes to single
curly quote - the quote symbol required is ASCII 213 - I can get it on
the keyboard using - opt shift ].

However in search and replace WORD X insists on using char 212 before
a word. This is plain wrong if the apostrophe or whatever you call it
iindicates missing letters - as in the English -can't- for a word
beginning with a missing letter it should give me - 'S e tidsear a tha
annam -

Try turning off tools->autoformat as you type->replace ' and " with
smart quotes, and the same for autoformat before you do your find and
replace.

By FAR the best way to do this is simply to make sure the "curly quotes"
option is checked and do a Find/Replace: Find = '. Replace = ". Do NOT try
specifying a special character unless you want to comb through the entire
document manually for exceptions.

For the record, it works beautifully as well when you want to change
straight quotes to curly quotes Find = " Replace = ". Same thing for single
quotes.

Going back to straight quotes is not something I have attempted.
