replacing resources across multiple tasks and projects

Hi All:
I'm using Project 2000. Can anyone explain how I replace
resources (that is, reassign tasks from one resource to
another) in all tasks assigned to a particular resource
within projects linked through a resource pool? I want to
explore what effect losing a resource and burdening
remaining workers has on the schedules. (It is easy to do
it one task at a time with assign resources button, but
that would take me a few hours.) One way that may work, in
the resource pool resource sheet view, I can copy a name
and paste it over the resource being eliminated, and change
the max work units to 50% for each duplicate entry. That
gives all assignments to a remaining person, as I intend.
But is this a good way to do this? It doesn't feel right.

Thanks

Hi,

I do not have the time now to check it out, but I'm nearly sur ethe
following works
Open the resoruce pool with the third option "pools and sharer files...."
In the Projectx that comes up make sure all inserted projects are "open"
(little plus sign if necessary)
In Gantt Chart view select all tasks you want to replace the resource for
Assign Resources window, select the resource to be replaced, "Replace"
Click the new resoruce.

Thanks, great suggestion. After making the insertion
file, I then used the find and replace in the resource
column because it was easier for me than highlighting
tasks separated by summary tasks (the assign resources
window does not seem to allow replace option if summary
tasks are highlighted). It was easily done!!

This is one excellent use of the Resource Assignment box. On the
standard toolbar is a tool with 2 human heads on it. Click on that,
and the Resource Assignment box appears. Select all tasks with the
resource you want to replace assigned to them (if there are a lot,
apply the "using resource" filer). Select as many of these as you can
(this will be limited by available memory, so closing other apps may
help do more at once). Select the resource's name in the Resource
Assignment box, the click on the "Replace" button. A dialog box will
appear, with the same list of resources you just had in the Resource
Assignment box. Select the resource you want to replace the other
with. Click OK.
One of the nice parts of using this method is that any partial
assignments on the original resource will be replicated for the
replacement resource.
Best of luck.
