Reply and Forwarding Arrows on e-mails

When I reply to or forward an an e-mail, Outlook does not show this with
the purple or blue arrow in my inbox. Why?

There are a number of causes and i don't recall ever seeing them typified.
However, since it's cosmetic, does it really matter?
