Reply from Nextel phone not showing Display Name in From field

Hi All,

I've got techs using Nextel i580 phones in the field and our service program
sends them emails with dispatch info. When they reply to that email the
message arrives with a From address of (e-mail address removed). I've
tried what seems like every option to get that to show a friendly name
instead. I've added a contact with all the correct info on both the client
AND the Exchange Server with no results. Running Outlook 2007 and Exchange
2003. This happens to be an IMAP email box but doesn't seem to work on a
standard inbox either.

Thx!
Mike

If you're seeing this addresses in Outlook for messages that arrive from the
phones, then the phones are the source of the addresses. You must configure
the phones to send friendly names (if that's even possible). Outlook's
contacts have nothing to do with it.

Thanks Brian. Yes, that is the address that shows when the messages come from
the phones. I don't think there is a way to modify that on the phone or on
the account even based on what Sprint is telling me. Seems like I wouldn't be
the only one to need to do this in a business environment. I hoped it might
work like regular email seems to...where if the address is found in your
contacts it's use the display name in the From field. Maybe that's not how it
actually works....

Tell you what I'm shooting for maybe you've got a suggestion...

I have messages coming into a mail folder from techs in the field using
Nextel phones. This folder needs to be watched by multiple people and is
time-sensitive. Currently all the msgs come in with the From address as the
phone number like I mentioned. This is confusing as there are many
techs/phone numbers and I'd love it to be as simple as glancing at their name
to know who it's from. I previously had it setup with one shared mail folder
with a sub-folder for each tech and had rules set up to move the messages
into the proper folders based on which tech it came from. This was kind of
confusing for the less computer literate folk in the office and had a certain
level of maintenance involved with multiple folders, etc. Also had issues
with being able to set incoming msg alerts for the other folks since that
mail folder was not their primary inbox. Any thoughts? Questions?

Thx!

That's not how Outlook works, either. It always shows you what the sender
uses for the friendly name. Only if you include a contact does it include the
Display As name from the contact record.

Perhas the people who provide your phone service have a suggestion. Have you
considered using rules to assign categories to the incoming messages, where
each category represents a person? You can then view the folder in the By
Category view to collect messages related to the same person together.

Ok. So if there is a contact with a Display As name, what does outlook look
for to match when there is no friendly name? Or does it at all?

Ha! Nah, it's Sprint. Unfortunately, they are a little bit clueless about
all this...

Great suggestion. Thx for your help!

Match it when?

I'm sorry. You said:

Doesn't it match something from the incoming email to the contact in order
to show the Display As name?

I don't believe so. It doesn't on any of my Outlook instances.
