I have exactly the same issue. A real estate agent received a message from a
client (and she is using Outlook 2007) to which she replied. The client
contacted her and advised that he could not read her response because it was
all question marks and odd characters. She forwarded the message to me and
now when I reply to any email the recipient receives a garbled message
consisting of mainly question marks and other characters too. A search on
the internet shows some solutions relating to language settings, which are
difficult to implement because we don't know what language is required to
'decifer' the characters. Both our Outlook settings are set at the defaults.
Other suggestions were to stop using Word as the editor and set replies to
be sent in plain text only and not HTML. Neither of the latter two
suggestions made any difference to the problem.
I have spoken to some colleagues in the IT industry and they report that
they have seen this issue in a number of cases only recently. Malware checks
were undertaken with both my system and the real estate agent and neither PC
had any infections.
I wish someone would look into this issue as emails are an important aspect
of our business
