Reply Problem

I have been using Outlook 2003 for years. Suddenly, I can't use "Reply".
The computer freezes (hourglass) when I try to reply to a message. I use
Word 2003 as the e-mail editor. The only way out of this is Cntrl-Alt-Del.
When I do this and shut down, I get the warning that the reply message will
be lost if I continue shut down, but I seem to have no alternative. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2003. I am using Windows XP.
Any suggestions????

I deleted the "normal.dot" file and I think this solved the problem.
Alternatively, I can uncheck the use of Word as the editor.
