Replying to emails via internet email

I am on a small network whose server runs W2k server and Exchange Server 2000. On my client PC I run Outlook 2003, however I have a problem when replying to some emails after I've pressed the auto reply button. I often get an error message saying Outlook couldn't connect to my smtp server, or was timed out. I've checked and double checked my email account to see if it is set up properly and all seems ok. All the rest of the staff continue to use Outlook 2000 because this is error-free - so the problem has to be Outlook 2003.

Can anyone help?
