Replying to HTML crashes Outlook 2003

I've got an XP system that will crash Outlook 2003 everytime you reply
to an HTML formated email. I also had to disable sending HTML for the
same reason. It will also hang IE 6.0 on some Java-based apps. I'm
making a huge assumption by grouping them together, but to date no XP
or Outlook patch / service pack or reinstall has worked on either
problem.

Any suggestions from the gurus?...as any dejanews search has turned up
zip.
