How can TEXT1 not have the same name in the report header as in the Gantt View?

Hi Diane,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

It depends on what type of report you're after. You might like to see FAQ
Item: 37 - Custom Fields in Tables. FAQs, companion products and other
useful Project information can be seen at this web address:

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for responding to my "Community Newsgroups"
question.

I'm wondering if whether I wrote the question right? A
TEXT1 task field (as opposed to a resource field) is given
a specific value (custom field) and I can see the results
in the Gantt View, but not in the print preview of my
report. Would I have to write script to make the TEXT1
field be the same in both spots?

I was surprised when this custom field did not show the
value in the print preview. Any other comments on this?
I appreciate the time you are taking to think about this.

Thanks again!

Hi Diane,

Which report are you trying to print? None of the default reports will have
Text1 in them. Select the report you want and select to Edit it. You'll
see it uses a default table. You will thus have to create your own table
and select that for the report to use.

Here's the process -
Gantt View, print preview, page setup, header tab, ...
At the bottom of this window is a Project Fields drop-down
box. It has the TEXT1 field but not the custom TEXT1 that
I created. How can I use my custom TEXT1 in this window?

I apoligize for using the word "report" in the wrong
context.

Ok, I see now. Although I can't explain the thinking behind that, it seems
rediculous to me to allow the selection of many of those fields to be placed
in a Heading! The details in your Text1 field will only appear in the print
out if it is shown in the table. If you insert a Text1 column in your Entry
table in the Gantt Chart view, that should then show up in the Print
Preview. Project cannot obviously print all the contents of all the Text1
data in its heading!

This is kind of a late response, but I have found that you can display any of
the custom fields listed in the page setup, but only the value that will
appear on the printouts will be the value listed in the project summary task
line, i.e., line "zero". This is a good way to add custom data to a
printout, but will not change depending on the tasks actually shown.
