Report Linked To Excel Causes Access 2007 Crash

I have a report that is linked to an Excel spreadsheet that I use every now
and then. I tried to use again and now it crashes as soon as I attempt to
display the report. In diagnosing the problem, I have found that I cannot
create any new linked report. Access will always crash when I try to display
the report.

I have found these simple steps always cause Access to crash:

1. Use Excel to create a new empty spreadsheet. I created a simple
spreadsheet with 4 cells of information. In the first column, put these 4
rows of data:

Test
A
B
C

2. Save that spreadsheet as test.xlsx and close Excel.
3. Open the test.xlsx using Access.
4. Access will automatically start the import wizard. Click “First Row
Contains Column Headings†and then “Finishâ€. You will get a success message.
5. Click on the “Create†ribbon then click “Report Wizardâ€. Add the one
field to the report and click “Finishâ€.
6. Access will now crash.

I have all windows and office 2007 updates installed. I tried this on a
coworker’s machine and got the same result.

Can someone offer help? I have not found anything about this problem.
Maybe a windows update caused it?

I should also point out that I am running on Windows XP with all latest
patches on a dual core machine.

I would also be curious to here if someone else with all latest patches
installed can perform the steps I listed without seeing a crash. I really
need to get this working again. Thanks.
