Reporting database is empty all of a sudden?

Hi,

for the second time in a short period of time, reporting database is empty.
The first time we still don't have a clue how it came...

For the second time, I have some more information:
- we were experiencing troubles with adding a custom field, for the
resources. It has the same lookup table as another field RBS. They both use
the same lookup table also called RBS.
anyway, in order to get the second added field in the database, I tried a
backup (of the enterprise custom fields only, and restored the enterprise
custom fields (only).
did this cause the reporting database to become empty? I mean, there is no
data in the reporting database at all!

How can I get all the published data, back into the database?

I wouold be thankful for any help :)

Kind regards,

Diederik

Hi Paul, firstly thanks for your help!

I have some other difficulties:

the published database is not that big... (we have not gone live yet,
so to say).
I started the rebuild yesterday morning, so we are more than 24 hours
further...
there are three entries in the queue haveing to do something with the
refresh:
the first one I cancelled, before it ran (I thought... :))
the second one, failed
the third one, that I believe is causing every process to stall, os
still 'waiting to be processes' (at queue position 4).
so there could be something before this? I will check that out, and
post it later on...
(The reporting database now contains only the resources...
so there are no assignment, tasks nor projects.)

Is the reporting database not automatically sync'd with the published
and other databases?
I also did ask a PM to republish a project, to see whether it turns up
in the reporting database... but it seems that all processes in the
queue with a job type starting with 'Reporting' hang... or at least
the ones with type 'Reporting (Prjoct Publish'). What is up with that?

and another thing I would also like to know is the problem that
started it all... the second custom field still did not get into the
reporting database!!

Thanks for your help

It may be that the first job you cancelled has a correlation on the
subsequent jobs and therefore causing them to fail.

Try the following:-

cancelling all outstanding jobs in the Queue

Open and save each custom field (no need to make changes)

Backup\restore the custom fields

Wait, be patient and monitor the Queue.

You should see an event in the Queue similar to Rebuild Successful.

Don't publish/save any projects/timesheets etc until the rebuild has finished.

Hi

saving the custom field all get in the queue, and go to sleep almost
inmediatly :-(
backing up, and restoring there after are successful
but the refreshing of the reporting database fails (obviously?, since all
the other processes concerning the reporting database stall?)

Diederik

UpdATE:
Thanks, the reporting database is filled again... but the second
custom field still does not appear in the database...
so we renamed the field, saved it, and thereafter performed an backup/
restore.... which is running at the moment...

we will give an update asap!

The refresh almost completed, untill it failed on an incorrect
project...
we hope to have finished that one, and are now retrying the backup-
restore action again!

keep you posted!

This shouldn't be failing!  Is there any information in the logs which
suggests why this is happening ?

The error message is on another computer, but the problem had
something to do with an invalid project type, that is not allowed to
be refreshed or something. This error message causes the refresh job
to fail...
