reporting progress setting

Hi,
I Have the same problem as Larry had on the 2/16 -
"difficulty with updating project progress"
As she mention from some reason some project tasks can be updated with
Actual Work and Remaining Work ( as this is my setting ) and another( the new
task I'm now trying to add ) show up only allowing the Resource to update %
Complete for a task. Why is this happening?
I check my "reporting progress setting " on both the PWA and the Project
Profesinal and it's seems to be OK. What am I missing?
Why it's suddenly changed?

Ravit --

Has your Project Server administrator locked down the default method of
tracking for your organization? If not, he/she should do so immediately.
To solve your problem, do the following:

1. Open one of the projects you are managing
2. Click Tools - Customize - Published Fields
3. Confirm that the method of tracking for the project matches your
company's method of tracking (if not, change it to match)
4. Click OK
5. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments
6. Click OK
7. Repeat steps 1-6 for every project you manage

Doing so will "push" the correct method of tracking to each user's timesheet
for each project. Do know, however, that the above steps will only change
UNSTARTED tasks. If a user has entered progress on a task using another
method of tracking, then the user will need to complete the task using the
original method of tracking for that task. Hope this helps.

I checked the setting again, on the PWA the admin set the default method for
reporting progress to be "Actual work done and work remaining" and force
project managers to use the progress reporting method.
On Project Pro all my project set to use the defult method set in PWA .

One more input- this reporting progress method worked fine for us until the
admin try to add a "Time period" settings in order to use the "Ajast actual"
option.
But even after he removed the time period optioon to "Non Managed Periods "
and make sure all other setting are correct- we still have a problem. Could
it be a bug ?
Can we change something directly in the Database in order to make it work
again?

This is very important for us, all resources can't update progress until we
will fix this problem

that method until it is complete. Only tasks that are not started can be
changed to a different tracking method. It sounds as though your project
contains a mixed bag of tracking methods due to "untested" Administrative
manipulations. There's little you can do to change this now without removing
the plan from the server, importing it back in, and republishing everything
choosing to over-write actual work in the resource timesheets. Be aware that
this manipulation may alter your actual work record.

Thnaks Gary,
This is definitely a bug!
The only way we resolved this issue is by restore the Database ( we save
backup every day).
The I republis the project using the "over-write actual work " option.
