Reports with dates going down the left side of page?

I'm looking at MS Project to see if this is right for our company. One of the things we need is the ability to generate reports that have the dates running down the left and the resource names going across the top, with each cell filled with the task name(s) for that day and resource. So it would look something like this
Resource1 Resource2 Resource
12/1 write x revise w order ar
12/2 write x review z pour page
12/3 write x review z pour page
12/4 write y review x pour page
et

Is this possible with MS Project Standard or Pro 2003? If not, is there a 3rd party program that does this? Thanks.

Certainly with some visual basic for applications this can be done. The
question is, wouldn't excel be sufficient for this?

We have been doing this in Excel, and for 50 people on various projects, it is a cumbersome process. Setting it up takes days, and since the schedules change every day, we have to shift the cells constantly. Plus we have 5 to 10 different types of reports representing the same data in different ways, but each report is done manually. I'd like to be able to do this in Project so that I can incorporate each resource's days off, use one bank of resources for multiple projects, be able to gauge over/under-allocation, and generate reports quickly. So far, I'm seeing that MS Project has everything, except it doesn't seem to be able to generate the type of reports I need

I'm not familiar with Visual Basic, but I might try exploring that option.
