Why should it print in the report? Showing in a query doesn't suggest that it
should print in the report.

Are you suggesting you have a visible text box in a visible section of your
report that is bound to the field in your report's record source query and
the field does not display?

I think so.

I created a query with joined tables. I can see the "active" or "inactive"
on the query. I then wrote a report using that query. I added both the key
from the first table and the description from the second table. On the
report, the key prints, but the description (active or inactive) does not
print.

Is the field you are having trouble with defined as a lookup field in the
table?
Are you suggesting that you have a field [Description] in your report's
record source that can be seen in the datasheet view of the record source but
when you drag the field from the field list into report, it doesn't display?

I do not believe it is a lookup field. (I created the table and I am not sure
what a lookup field is)

The answer to question two is Yes.
