Hi
i am working on some files created on word (v 2001 mac). [and not using
equation editor]

some files use the symbol font is it possible to convert them to the pc
character map

can it be done using any tools or would it need to be scripted?
ie Macintosh opt character set remap to pc Unicode character/glyph
i hope this makes sense to someone out there, any tips would be appreciated
cheers ab

I think you will be able to do it with find and replace on the PC. Copy
each offending character into the find field and replace all.

You should be able to do the same in Word 2004 on the Mac. You need
something with Unicode.

Yeah, I saw your earlier post. I gave you the "simple" answer, which is
"No." You can't do it because Word 2001 doesn't support Unicode fully.

However, there are two other answers which can be equally true :)

1) You do not need to. If you are using a modern version of the Symbol
font, the characters will be encoded within it with Unicode character
numbers. If they are, there's no need to convert, it will work the same on
the PC and the Mac.

2) If you specify the Font and Character Number, and you use the Microsoft
version of Symbol font, the difference should not matter because the
Microsoft version of the font is coded to match the PC version.

As I said earlier, the best solution is to use Word 2004. Word 2004 will
perform a font substitution the first time it opens the document.

Hope this helps
