Representing elapsed times in Excel

I am a novice on Excel and want to keep a list of times for the
exercise walking I do. In one column I want to put the date, in the
second the location where I did the walking, and in the third the
amount of time I walked, e.g., 1:40:35 = one hour forty minutes thirty
five seconds. How do I do that? Ever time I try to enter such a
figure Excel does a computation on what I entered and makes the entry
unintelligible to me.

Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

Hi Jay,

You should be able to type 1:40:35 into any cell and have it display as 1:40:35. If you do so and Excel displays 0.069849537037037
(or some rounding of this) instead of 1:40:35, or Excel adds AM/PM to the time, then you'll need to reformat the cell as 'time'
(preferably with the hours as [h] and without the AM/PM).

Cheers
