Reproducing dialogue boxes

Wallace

In some of the MS Word instruction I do I now have a need
to reproduce some of Word dialogue boxes, such as the
Format Page Number and the Field dialogue boxes. What is
the best way to capture these images and copy them to
another document?

Thanks for any assistance anyone can offer.

You can do simple screen captures with just the tools you already have. The
PrintScreen key will capture the entire screen to the Clipboard, whence you
can paste it either into Word or into a graphics app for editing (the latter
is recommended; save in a standard graphics format and use Insert | Picture
| From File to put it in your doc; that way you will still have a copy even
if something untoward happens to the document). Alt+PrintScreen will capture
the active window or dialog the same way. For more elaborate screen shots
(such as ones that include the mouse pointer, to display the entire contents
of a scrolling list box or Web page, etc.), I recommend SnagIt from
TechSmith (www.techsmith.com), which is easy to use and also offers a lot of
very useful finishing options for dressing up screen shots of portions of
pages.
