requery doesn't work in WinXP/Office2k

I get an error in application only on WinXP/Office2k
machines, not WinXP/OfficeXP or Win2k/Office2k.

I have a form bound to a crosstab query that groups by a
couple of fields with a count of the records and a subform
that lists the individual records in each group. The user
can delete individual records, which the code does through
delete operations performed through action queries run on
the currentproject.connection ADO connection. When 0 or 1
subform records are left, the code to requery the main
form causes the fields on the main form to display #Name?,
and flashes as though it's rerunning the query over and
over. It can't be interrupted with Ctrl-Break even when
stepping in break mode in the debugger. Alternative
attempts to reference me.form.recordset causes an error
that the object is not valid.

I'm pretty stumped for ideas on what to check. Could the
problem be caused by the subform requery just before the
main query (it's used to produce the recordcount that
determines whether to requery the main form)? The refresh
of the main form won't find a record with values that
match the subform.

Is it important that I requery just the recordsets of the
form and subform, or is requerying the subform and form
okay?

Suggestions welcome.
