requery failure

i have a main form with many combos. i work my database through this form
only. i fail to requery my combos that are based on different queries and
tables. if i insert new data, i have to close the main form and reopen it to
get the updated data.
i have assigned a macro on the onclick event of each combo with a requery
action. but the requery applies only once, i.e. if i insert new data in
another form and close it, i get the new records, but if i open it again and
close it the combos are not updated. why is this happening? any advice?
