This sounds complex, but I'm sure there is a simple low cost solution.
I'm in a service industry working out of multiple locations, requiring
appointments with clients and then blocking off time to complete the work for
those clients.
In my home based office, I have an intranet (wired/wireless) connected to the
internet. Consisting of:
Desktop 1 - Win XPhome, Outlook 2003
Desktop 2 - Win XPpro, Outlook 2003
Desktop 2 - Win2k, Outlook 2000
Laptop - WinXP pro, Outlook 2000
PDA - Windows Mobile 2003 with Calendar
Office 2 has a intranet NOT connected to the internet, where 1 computer may be
used for scheduling with my outlook files. That network is set up with a
specialized 3rd party software that schedules various service providers with
facilities and billings etc. running in a Windows environment.
Out of office, visiting clients on site.
I'd like to set up a work calendar on the home network that could be accessed
from any of the computers listed. How would you suggest this be done?
A) Use Windows/Outlook user profiles to access the 1 calendar (including
contacts categorized by clients and suppliers).
B) Use Remote Desktop to connect to one computer set up with Outlook 2003 for my
work schedule?
C) Other?
For Office 2, They currently do not have my schedule for anything not booked
into their specialized system. We are playing telephone tag to book and confirm
appointments. If they don't have Outlook on the 1 computer for scheduling, we
could install a stand alone Outlook and synchronize my calendar using my PDA or
a USB Key and briefcase or activesync. This would give the person scheduling
some idea of my schedule and planned locations, which could be updated 2-3 times
a week. (IMO having a slightly outdated calendar is better than having no
information at all). They could better book appointments and use voice messaging
to let me update my calendar on the Home network or PDA. Alternatively I could
bring my PDA (preferred) or Laptop there for when I am there since the majority
of appointments and corresponding work times are booked for that office are
booked while I'm there. When I'm not there, other appointments are usually
booked at the end of the schedule for one of the next times I'm scheduled to be
there. How would you suggest I do or update my calendar here to minimize phone
calls and conflicts?
Out of office, I'm trying to migrate to my PDA, from the laptop. (Now that I've
got the PDA and synchronization understood)
I'm open to any suggestions. Hopefully even a discussion of various methods.
Thank you,
