require help with rules

I have set up rules based on how to assign emails in folders based on
who is the sender. however this fails when users send emails though
mailing-lists.

The name of the sender appears as 'from' but the sender is really the
mailing-list. And then there are some majordomo that have the 'On
behalf of'..

The rule is baed on who the sender is in the global address/directory.
I know I can try to add person by person using the 'pattern in message
header' but that interface was designed by an idiot.

can some one provide a simple way to get the rules to work by using
usernames.

I have to add 25 people in a org and need them to go to a folder. I
can generate the names of the users's user-id from a simple web query
- can paste it in the rule if I use the 'mail from'.

unfortunately - this is the requirements and outlook is the choice of
tool.
