Required fields & templates

JB

Hello,

I'm afraid I know the answer is No, but would like to hear something
else.

Our templates have a number of fields that we have defined in the
global as Required. Is there any way around saving a template without
populating these fields?

Thanks,

jb

The only ways around this problem are:

1. Pre-populate the required fields with a default value, which the PM's
may change, if needed.
2. Temporarily deselect the Required option for each required field in the
Enterprise Global, then save the enterprise templates with no values in the
custom enterprise Project fields, and then re-select the Required option for
the fields in the Enterprise Global.

Of the two, I'd opt for solution #1 above, as it is far simpler. Hope this
helps.

Hmmm. I have no trouble at all saving templates without populating required
fields. (2003 SP1)

Same here!!! I always save templates although I have 6 or 7 required fileds.
are you sure you chose template from the drop down menu instead of project?!!!

I stand corrected. Sorry for any confusion my misinformation may have
caused.

Correction to my last apology: If you import a project as a template using
Tools - Enterprise Options - Import Project to Enterprise, the system WILL
NOT allow you to import the template until you enter values in all Required
fields. If you merely open an .mpp file or an enterprise project file,
click File - Save As, and select Template as the file Type, the system WILL
allow you to save the project as a template without entering values in
Required fields. I'm not sure why there is this consistency, but it is
there for sure. Hope this helps.
