Reresenting projects without plans

Can I use Project Server 2003 to create project information for projects that
have no plans? For example Projects in the feasibility/pipeline stage which
are shaping up but do not yet have a PM or plan? Likewise when the project
closes and the plan is closed down, can I keep the project information open
somewhere? Or - is this functionality part of what will be doable in 2007?

This is not possible in Project Server 2003. Perhaps it will be available
in Project Server 2007. Hope this helps.

i think there could be a way for that. You can create a project and make sure
to make all resources commitments to those plans as "Proposed" this way they
are not going to receive any task notifications. Furthermore you can see how
this project will affect your resources through the Resource Modeler.

Finally, while planning other projects, you can level resources and compare
them against proposed timing, this will help you determine how much resources
you need for this unplanned project.

hope this helps.

Thanks Dale,

Is it possible to create project work space on SPS without having an
underlying project schedule saved in server?

Hi Steve,
you can create a workspace on SPS regardless if it i for a project or for
any other purpose. You should first determine where you want to put it, then
click on "Create" in the SPS toolbar, and select create a new site.

You can also create from site templates offered by SPS.

Steve:

You can accomplish this in 2003 simply by putting a placeholder project in
the system. You can have as many tasks or no tasks in the placeholder plan.

Its a shame P/S 2003 doesnt have a proposal functionality. I'm sure there is
a ready built function 'Proposal element' in the new 2007 version. Someone
had even developed a SDK version for 2002, but that doesnt work with Project
Server 2003 so it was just 2003 that has been left out. I have a large number
of proposed projects so think the methods suggested may work well. Thanks for
the ideas.
