Res_Peak negative value

Vandy

I am having the problem with RES_PEAK negative value as noted in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887027. ; I do the fix to update it to zero,
but when we publish all information or republish taking over management
ownership of tasks, it just reappears and makes the value in RES_PEAK go
negative. We are on MSProject Server 2003, have upgraded all desktop
machines to SP2 and applied hot fix. This project may have been saved or
updated at some point on older version. However, it seems there is something
else on the database or somewhere that is triggering this field to be updated
when published and getting a negative value. Is there anything we can do to
permanently get rid of this problem?

Any help you can provide would be appreciated,

Ashish Ojha,
I believe I fixed my problem. Here is what I found. On a whim, I went into
the resource usage view in MSProject and viewed the work at the day level. I
copied whole project grid to excel just to use features of excel to do
searching and filters. What I ended up finding was a week span (where the
individual on the suspect record with RES_PEAK value negative) with obnoxious
numbers. It had about +3 billion hours in 4 days in the first week in
January and 1 day with negative 12 billion hours to offset the positive
values. Looking at any summary amounts, this netted to zero, but to the day
level showed these large amounts.

It was in actual work even though she had never input it. Project update of
some sort must have put the hours out there. I tried a number of things,
including resync to actuals, but it did not get rid of it. Here is what
worked. For the timespan, task, etc. that had these large values, I went
into the timesheet and put a value of 1 hours for each of these days, updated
the time. This created records for those days. I then zeroed them out, not
deleting them, and resubmitted. This created records to do time approvals
on. I ran fix on RES_PEAK to zero. Project owner accepted time, published
plan and we have not had the issue since.

Hope this helps you.
