Research Services

Hi!

I just installed my Hungarian Office 2003 Professional Edition, after
reinstalling my whole computer. Before that, I used an English Office 2003
Professional Edition 120-day Edition. In that, I had some reference books
connected to Encarta, in my Research options. Now, I don't have any. I even
have an Encarta 2004 Premium Suite DVD (UK Edition) installed.
Does this mean, that I can't research English Encarta definitions with
Hungarian Office (actually I can use the English thesaurus, so I don't see
the point).
The online help doesn't mention, that Encarta can't be used in specific
locales. The Microsoft Knowledge Base has an article, which I don't really
understand. It is 827462 - "Research Service Does Not Support the Addition
of Local Sources in Office 2003", and it's summary says: "In Microsoft
Office 2003, the Research service does not support the addition of local
sources, such as Microsoft Encarta or Microsoft Bookshelf.", and there are
two paragraphs in the More Information describing what the Research pane is
good for. Well thanks, I don't even know, if that single sentence is a bug,
or a "feature".

Thanks,
Szajd

Did you enable Encarta in Research options?
827462 - "Research Service Does Not Support the Addition of Local Sources in
Office 2003"
This means the research can't use DVD's or CDs as the source - it needs to
use a http source. This is an internet source for most people, but you can
write your own research panes and use a locally installed IIS server.

Right I see.

Actually, the problem, that there is no Encarta in the settings. Under the
"Research Websites" (or whatever in English :)) category there is only a
British MSN Search option, no Encarta at all.

Thanks for your help, I'm still interested in the solution (if there's any).

Sounds like it's a language/version issue. I'm not sure if just changing the
computer's language settings might help or if it's programmed into the
program.
