Research Task Pane?

Is there an equivalent "Research Task Pane" on the Mac version 2004
that exists on the PC Excel 2003 version?

I'm doing some exercises on the PC Excel dealing with inserting stock
prices from companies using this task pane and want to try it on the
Mac version.

Hi

Much of the functionality of the research task pane is available in
MacOS without any other applications running. You can search through
files and folders easily from Finder (the desktop application) by using
Apple+F.

Inserting stock prices into Excel can be accomplished using web queries.
There are some example queries provded with Excel on the Data menu.

My (somewhat out of date) web page has detailed information about how to
create and use web queries.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jim. I understand that I'm able to retrieve stock prices by
other means.

I'm taking a PC Excel 2003 class and a couple of exercises refer to the
research task pane to retrieve stocks values. The funny thing is that
I'm miising most of the reference books (Encarta Dictionary, MSN Money
Stock Quotes, etc.). Under Research Options, I only have Thesaurus
(English, French, and Spanish) and Translation.

Is there a way to restore the "missing" books?

Hi again,

The dictionary is on the Tools menu. You can use Tools > Customize >
Commands and drag the dictionary to any toolbar or menu.

I don't have a copy of Excel 2003 handy so I don't know exactly which
other features are different.
