reservation chart in access

[Subterfuge]

looking for method to create 4 month (top row - day & date) and room numbers
(side column) to chart last names by arrival and departure dates. The visual
would be color coded and cells merged to represent stays of guests at a
particular property in a particular room. An example would be found at
www.chartallco.com which is the current method we use. I built an access
database to manage our guests, but must still use paper chart and tape
because I cannot figure it out

You might want to review the calendar reports at
http://www.access.hookom.net/Samples.htm. They use several different methods
for drawing on reports.

I can implement a reservation tape in your database for you. It will look
like Chartalico's paper tape.

Are you advertising? I'm offering free assistance which is the basis for
public news groups. The sample that I suggested has a gantt type chart that
can be adapted to meet the needs of the OP.

So why don't I what? Give advice and assistance for free? That's exactly what
I do. My samples are free and my assistance is free in the public news groups
and other forum. I have posted over 9,000 replies in Tek-Tips alone at a rate
of about 200 per month. I have not solicited in any of these postings.

I have also accepted MDBs from people and spent hours assisting them outside
of the NGs for free. In none of these instances did I ever ask for money.

The key word here is "free". Apparently you don't understand that.

That's not what the OP asked for. He/she asked for assistance and I provided
assistance (free). The sample I suggested has a report with beginning and
ending dates in a chart. If you haven't scared away the OP, I will continue
offering support.

I just looked out on my web server and I do have at least 4 zipped MDB files
that I put out there based on threads from public news groups (free).

You are just not getting it. The news groups aren't for people looking for
others to perform work for them. They are for people who have questions and
want to learn how to use Access. There are other places on the web where you
can either post work needed or offered (not for free).

If this thread were to stay on topic with the required chart and the OP
wasn't understanding, I would do what I usually do in those cases: offer to
accept a copy of their MDB with requirements and provide a working sample
back to them (for free). This never happens until the NG system of
communication just doesn't seem to be working.

I have taken on about 2 small projects in the past 10 years based on my
participation here. The OP always contacts me first and generally must
exhaust the (free) NG system.

a solution. I offered a solution. You, on the otherhand told an OP who may
not know what questions to ask, to ask questions. And now you are saying
that every OP who wants help must ask questions in the newsgroup ad
infinitum and you still can't guarantee him a solution in the end. I offered
the OP a solution that guarantees a solution in the end. The OP is free to
accept or reject my offer. The key word here is "free".

He stated his problem and he said he can not figure it out. He didn't ask
for assistance; he asked for a solution. Look closely at what you boast is
help. The OP gave an example of what he needed a solution for at
www.chartallco.com. This website shows a gannt chart displaying
reservations. He said he "can not figure it out". Your great piece of advise
was go look at another website with a gannt chart. Now if an OP can't figure
out his example website how is it of any help to tell him to look at another
website with the same thing. With all of your rhetoric about assistance and
free help, the bottom line is the OP sadly got what he paid for from you -
nothing. I offered the OP help that guarantees a solution in the end. It was
his perogative to accept or reject my help.
