Reserved Error (-1517) in datasheet view

I get this error opening a table in datasheet view.
It says 'there is no message for this error' - not very
helpful!

This table has three records in it that I added manually
in datasheet view. The first autonumber key is blank and
the second and third show #Error.

What could have happened and how to get past this?

This error will occur if you change the design of a table, but don't follow
through with a compact. If your database is split, it is a good idea to
compact the backend after a design change, and also refresh the links in the
frontend and compact it.

Thanks very much, I never would have found that out by any
other means!

It tricked me also, recently. I found that refreshing the front-end link,
was the solution.
