Resetting Entourage?

skudera

I just started using MS Entourage and I've run into a problem with my
settings. It appears I have two accounts on the left side (both same
gmail account). How can I hide / delete the ones I don't need?
Everytime I click and hit delete, it gives me an error of:

Error: Internal folder cannot be deleted. (Failure)
Explanation: The IMAP server could not delete a folder. Account name:
"Gmail" Error: 1025

Here is a pic of what my entourage looks like right now:

Can I also get rid of "Mail Views", "Microsoft News Server" and "On My
Computer"? There's so much crap on the side it gets annoying (to me).

Thank you very much for the picture! It really helps.

I believe you've set up your Gmail account twice under Tools -->
Accounts. Delete one of them.

If for some reason that's not the problem then you may want to start
your setup again. Use Entourage menu --> Switch Identity... to start a
new identity and set up your Gmail account again.
Can I also get rid of "Mail Views", "Microsoft News Server" and "On My
Computer"? There's so much crap on the side it gets annoying (to me).

You can not get rid of "Mail Views". That's a feature of Entourage, not
an account type. Use it to quickly filter for messages in one or more
accounts. With Mail Views you can literally stop filing all your
messages in folders and sub-folders to keep them organized and just
search dynamically for the messages you need.

You can delete the Microsoft News Server under Tools --> Accounts... -->
News.

You can not delete the folders "On My Computer" because this location is
used for offline mail storage and filing. Also, all Outgoing messages
for any type of account go through the Outbox under the folders "On My
Computer". This is Entourage's temporary storage area while it's working
to send your mail.

If you're distracted by the contents of any of these items simply
twiddle the disclosure triangle to close them.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the information. I deleted my old account and configured
a new one. However, I still have the gmail inbox (new one) and [Gmail]
one, which shows all my emails from day one of my gmail account. I
don't mind so much if it's there (and minimized) as long as the gmail
inbox is set to default when I open up Entourage. Any more
suggestions?

Thanks for the screenshot. I have a question. One of your gmail account is
showing up with a lock. I have never seen that before. What type of account
do you have set up in Entourage?

Can you show a screen shot of your accounts window where it lists your
accounts?

Do you understand the difference between IMAP and POP accounts?

Originally, I set up my account as pop3, then removed it and
configured imap. I couldn't tell you the differences between the two,
but I was told to use imap.

Boy, do pictures help...

You should only be seeing one gmail account in the folder window.
Originally, I set up my account as pop3, then removed it and
configured imap. I couldn't tell you the differences between the two,
but I was told to use imap.

Since all your mail is on the Gmail server, I would do this...

1. Under Entourage in the Menu bar, select "Switch Identity"
2. Select "new" and create a new Identity
3. Enter your Account for gmail as IMAP. Follow the directions here:

Connect Entourage 2004 to Gmail¹s IMAP service

p_service.html>

Create Gmail labels and make Entourage folders

ge_folders.html>

4. This should result in only one account in the folder window. You can
always switch back to the other Identity if there is anything there you want
moved over. When you are happy with your new Identity, you can delete the
old one named "Main" by default.

POP/IMAP Accounts
POP and IMAP are two protocols that mail programs use to access mail stored
on remote computers. IMAP works by keeping mail on the server. POP works by
downloading your mail to your computer.

Do a quick read. It's basics everyone should know about email accounts.

And this is happening after using the Entourage --> Switch Identity...
command that Diane and I both mentioned?
