Resetting the default switch from Read/Write to Read Only

David

Hi,

I've installed both Project and PWA. When I open a file, the PWA projects
come up and I have the option at the bottom of the screen to either
Read/write to check out or Read only to view. The default setting is
Read/write. Is there any place I can go and change the default setting to
Read only?

That way if someone was checking out a project they would have to change the
setting on the screen to check the project out to make modifications.

If you want to set the default permission from Read/Write to Read-Only, you
must control this through Groups and Categories in PWA. Each project
manager already has Read/Write permission to his/her own projects, which is
the default permission setting in the Project Managers group. If you want
project managers to open the projects of other managers Read-Only, do the
following:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Manage Users and Groups
3. Select the Project Managers group and click the Modify Group button
4. In the Categories section, select the My Organization category from the
list on the right
5. In the Permissions grid of the Categories section, set the Open Project
permission to Allow
6. In the Permissions grid, make sure that neither Allow or Deny is set for
the Save Project permission
7. Click the Save Changes button

Hope this helps.

What Dale said is correct but it will address the issue you specifically
have. I do believe there is a registry setting somewhere that could do what
you want. Not sure what that is though. If I find it I will let you know.

Hi Jonathan,

I agree, Dale always give wonderful advise. But it didn't answer the actual
question I had. You seemed to have grasped where I was headed. If you run
across the registry setting for this, please let me know.

Thanks for all the help.
