resheduled work changes the duration

Brown

When I reshedule uncompleted work to start up after a
certain date (I use Tools, Tracking,Update Project,
Reshcdule umcompleted ...)it changes my durations! I
already have posted a %complete on some of the tasks but
some tasks are still 0% compete and the duration changes
on those too!

Any ideas?

Hello Brown,
I think that the split tasks have the task type "Fixed duration". Dialog box Task information, Tab
Advanced.
Turn it on "Fixed units".

Try checking for constraints on the Start dates for the tasks that are
0% complete. If there is a Start no later than constraint, Duration
will increase as the Finish date moves out.

Duration is the work time between the when the task starts and wheen it's
done. It does NOT mean that work actually happens during all that time. So
I have a task that started two weeks ago that should have been finished
today, 10 days later. But it's not - something came up and instead of
working 10 days on it we only worked 5 then got sidetracked. So as of
today I still have 5 days to go. I reschedule uncompleted work to start
tomorrow. That means it started 2 weeks ago and will be finished a week
from now. Duration ONLY cares about the possible working hours between the
date it starts and the date it's done and could care less about what happens
in the middle. So the original duration of two weeks has now become three,
even though the work actually done is still 2 weeks.
