Resize Handles not working

Hi,

I am having a problem resizing pictures (inline shapes) in protected
documents. The scenario is that you have a document that is protected
(read-only protection) that has an editable area. Users can add pictures in
this editable area but the trouble is the resize handles do not work - the
operation gets stopped. This is incredibly annoying. Its still possible to
right-click and resize using the Format Picture dialog but it is very
annoying that we cant do it through the handles.

Other protection methods - eg Protect For Forms do not share this problem.

I would really appreciate some help on this.

thanks

Simon

There isn't any way to change that behavior. You can use the Format
Picture dialog, or you can click the Stop Protection button, resize
the picture by dragging, and click the Start Enforcing Protection
button again.

Ok, unfortnately the options you have given me are not really that helpful
to our users. We cannot let them unprotect and using the format picture
sizing text boxes is clunky and unintuitive. To me this seems like a defect
as:

a) the resize handles work correctly for other forms of protection - eg
Protect for Forms
b) you can resize by using the Format Picture dialog - this means that
restricting this functionality is not being done for a sensible reason.

Can you comment?

thanks

I can't comment on why the resizing handles don't work in that mode,
since I don't work for Microsoft and don't have access to the code.
There may be some technical reason for it, or it could be an
oversight.

I can raise the issue through the MVP program and try to get an
explanation, but I think it's highly unlikely that the behavior will
be changed at least until the next major release.
