Resizing rectangles is funky; object move without my permission

I am trying to create graphics in PowerPoint, but when I try to resize (not constraining with the shift key), the item constrains! Help. I am clicking and dragging the side of the box, not the corner, and I'm not holding shift. I just want to resize a box. Then I try to move away (not holding anything down with my mouse), and the box decides to move! Then I have to move it back or press undo! Ummm... this is pretty ridiculous. Why did I pay $249 for an upgrade that could best be considered a downgrade? PowerPoint 2004 at least FUNCTIONED PROPERLY.

Make sure Office is fully updated (12.1.2) & also Leopard (10.5.5).

If the problem persists once the updates are done you'll need to supply more
specific detail. What you're describing is not a issue that has been seen as
an inherent bug in PPt.
