Resolving nicknames in To: field

I've seen similar posts to my question, but none have the
answer.

Russ - is there a way in Outlook 2003 (as I did daily in
Outlook 2000) to enter a nickname in the To field of a new
email message and have Outlook resolve that from the
nicknames in my contacts folder, which are part of the
Outlook Address Book?

No. The Outlook Address Book has never used the nickname field for
resolution. You might have been using IMO mode before. It probably tricked
you. It didn't use the Outlook Address Book, it used the Windows Address
Book, which does use the nickname field.

No. IMO mode was mercifully put out of its misery after Outlook 2000.

Can you please describe what IMO mode is? I still have the
old machine with Outlook 2000 on it. What can I check to
see if it's using IMO mode? The only address book I ever
set up was in Outlook 2000.

IMO was a stripped down version of Outlook without all the usual transports.
It looked like you were using the Outlook Address Book, but you were
actually using the Windows Address Book engine with your Outlook Contact
data, hence the difference in how the address book's behaved.
