Resource allocations not being saved in server

Here is my issue:

We are running Project Professional & Server 2002. The Project Managers are
setting up their schedules in the server and using the Enterprise Resource
Pool to build their project teams. After building their teams, they go into
the Resource Sheet and set the individual allocations (Max Units column) to
the percentages that they have each individual for....Joe - 50%, Mary - 25%,
etc...

After they save their projects to the server and re-open them, the
allocations all go back to 100%.

What are we doing wrong ? (Right now we are having them change the %
allocation at the task level so that they can keep working).

Thanks

The changes you make to the Max. Units value are temporary only. The
settings in the Enterprise Resource Pool override your temporary settings
the next time you open the project. Therefore, your project managers need
to set the specified Units value on every assignment to "lock in" the Units
values you wish to use in the project. Hope this helps.

Dale,

So what you are saying is that if a resource is allocated 30% to Project A &
40% to Project B, the PM for Project A would have to set the resource units
at 30% on every task that the resource is assigned, and the same for the PM
on Project B ?

Max Units is the total availability of the resource to the Enterprise.

Does this work the same in Project 2003 ?

The answer is Yes to every question you just asked. Here's a technique that
you could use to speed things up a bit:

1. Open a project
2. Apply the Resource Sheet view
3. Set the Max. Units for each resource in the project team
4. Apply the Gantt Chart view
5. Click the Assign Resources dialog
6. Select a task and assign a resource WITHOUT specifying a Units value

The Units value for the assignment will be set automatically to the value
specified in the Max. Units field in the Resource Sheet view. Again,
remember that the Max. Units value in the Resource Sheet view will not
persist after you close and reopen the project. Hope this helps.
