resource assignment

i want to add resources not by particular name, but with the group name. e.g.
project leader, project engineers and design engineers.

in my project most of the subtasks are going to be done by design engineers.
if i assign design engineers to them, project indicates overallocation of
resource. even assignment units against these tasks are 100% in task sheet
view. is it possible to name resources under the grooup name of design
engineers?

also is it possible to enter assignment units against the resoource name,
not against the assigned task?

e.g. resource name work assignment units
design engineers 570 hrs 300%
task 1 150hrs
120%
task 2 200 hrs
80%
task 3 220 hrs
100%

is it possible?

Hi Karishma ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup

You need to view the Resource Sheet and change the Units column to reflect
the numbers of each group. eg, if you have 5 designers, make the Units
500%. However, the disadvantage of using grouped resources is that you
cannot assign one of the group by name, as Project will look upon it as a
new resource.
