Resource Availability Across Multiple RBSes

Hi all,

Originally posted this in the server group, and received a suggestion
to try posting here.

We're working on getting Project Server 2007 setup in our environment,
and are planning on running projects through it from multiple
organizations within our company. For example, we may have
Implementations projects running through it, IT projects running
through it, etc.

However, I was hoping to have separate PWA sites setup for each
organization in order to provide some separation between different
organizations' projects. Included in this would be allowing each
organization to have separate enterprise custom fields, separate
enterprise project templates available from within MS Project, a
separate RBS, etc.

The problem I'm having, and it may just be because we're pretty early
in figuring everything out, is that I don't see a way right now to
synchronize resources that are shared between multiple RBSes. To put
it another way, when my manager goes to check out my availability, he
should see the time I've been committed for for each organization who
has me listed in their RBS...maybe 10 hours from Implementations and
20 hours from IT.

I've been initially thinking that I'd just have to override one of the
existing eventhandlers, but am unsure which one.

Or am I looking at this the wrong way and it doesn't involve the RBS
at all, but the users list instead?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

If you have resources working for all parts of the organisation you need to
use just one instance of project server. Look at the RBS code for resources
to add automatic restrictions for project and resource visibility. I
recommend you get a good Project partner to help set this up.

Well, the idea is that we'll have several different "organizations"
within our company running through Portfolio Server and Project
Server. Each will, for the most part, have their own set of
resources, but there will probably be some overlap. There may be a
few resources that would be shared across a couple of the
organizations.

The other benefits were that each organization would see their own
enterprise templates within Project, be able to define their own
enterprise custom fields, etc. This would give us some definite
delineation between organizations and allow each to have their own set
of rules within both Portfolio Server and Project Server without
stepping on each other.

Thanks for the quick reply :)
