Resource Availability Graphs/Charts

In the Resource Availabilty Views on PWA, it shows that the team is assigned
work full time, which is the 'Work' field as I understand it, and rather than
showing 0 in the availability field, it also shows available for the full
compliment of hours. ie. 40 hrs work and 40 hours available.

Can someone explain this?

Thanks...

Availability is how much time a resource is available, regardless of any
current task assignments. Remaining Availability is how much availability
is left over after making task assignments. Thus, if I have 8 hours of
availability, and am currently assigned to 8 hours of work during that time
period, then my remaining avaiability is 0 hours. I think you are confusing
these two terms. Hope this helps.

Dale - Exported the report to Excel --- below is a copy from 2 weeks in
January..I don't think I'm confusing 'work' & 'Availability. The is the
'Assignment by Resource View'. (It seems to me that the avail field should
be 0....)

Name Work Type 1/3 - 1/8 1/9 - 1/15
Team Member Work 42h 41h
Avail 32.5h 32.5h

I believe you are confusing Availability and Remaining Availability. I
should have been more precise. Sorry.

Since we allocate 81.25% units, that is 32.5 hours (productivity) a week, it
seems that if a team member is assign 42 hours of work, the remaining
availability should be 0...not 32.5. I can only think it may be that the
team member is assigned to tasks to multiple projects in the same week...(say
2 projects) and therefore PWA is displaying the 42 hours scheduled in project
A and since the person has not yet been scheduled in project B it is showing
the full 32.5 hours of availability for that project? Could that be
happening???

There is nothing in Project or Project server that decrements availability.
Availability, like Dale stated, is Availability. The value of this field is
always calculated by multiplying the resources max units against the
calendar for the time period. You can calculate "Remaining Availability" in
the OLAP cube or see it in various graphs in PWA.
