Resource availability on particular project

hi,
in summary: how do i schedule a resource to be available from a certain date
on a per project basis (rather than a global basis)?

detailed description:
i want a particular resource to start work on a project (project 1) on a
certain date - lets say July 1st 2008.

This resource is currently scheduled to do some work on another project
(project 2) up until that time, however I am scheduling some 'free time'
between projects to allow for loose ends to be tidied up. I dont want to
create a dependency between the projects.

I use Resource Levelling on both projects.
Currently, project 1 is inside project server, and project 2 is not (and
therefore does not use the shared resource enterprise pool).

The only way that I have found to makle all of my resources tasks schedule
in project 1 from 1st July on project 1 is to change his global resource
calander to say resource available from.

HOWEVER, obviously if i add project 2 into project server then this will
block that plan from working how i intend.

surely there must be a way to phase resource on and off a project without
playing with the global caleneder?

any help or tips would be great thanks,

Why isn't project2 saved in the Project Server database? That is your first
problem, as it needs to be in the system. Also, you can't make a resource
"available" for a project the way you wish, so leveling won't solve your
problem, nor will adjusting the Available From option for the resource.
Instead, assign the resource to tasks in project2 and that will reduce his
Remaining Availability for other projects accordingly. Hope this helps.

i want the resource to arrive on 1 project on a specific date,
and i'd like the autolevelling to level his tasks from that date

other project plans dont have him loaded from say 2 weeks before that date
as im creating some slack (without the slack being displayed on a project.)

id just like to specific that Resource X starts work on project Y on date Z.

There's no way to make a resource "arrive" on a project on a certain date.
Your best bet would be to create a cross-project dependency between the last
task assigned to the resource in the predecessor project and the first task
assigned to the resource in the second project. Hope this helps.
