Resource Availability

Hi All,

We are using Project Server 2003 in our organization. We have created
resources on the Enterprise Resource Pool and then using the build team from
enterprise to assign the resources to the individual projects.

My question is, can we put the availability dates for these enterprise
resources in individual project plans. For eg., I have a project 'A'
published on the project server with a resource 'R' working. When i open the
project A with my login, i double click on the resource 'R' and in the
general tab - Available from and Available to columns need to be updated to
know the resource availability in my project A.

Any solutions or workaround for this?

Have you considered configuring PS2003 to allow local resource calendars, and
using the local resouce calendar?

No we do have the option of using the local resource calendar. Any ideas of
how to configure the same and would it solve my issue?

If the PS2003 is configured to allow local calendars, and if there is no
over-riding task calendar, then I think you should be able to define a
resource calendar by selecting resource information tool > working time tab
for this resource in the resouce sheet view.

No, there isn't an enterprise way to doing this. Resources have an available
to/from date, but this is there general availability rather than specific
availability to a project. If you as a PM are being allocated resources for
a specific period, then the best I can think of is to use the notes field on
the resource to provide visibility of this, or something similiar, but there
isn't anything in Project that does this for you.

Are you using an Admin plan to capture support/administration time?
If so, then in the OLAP cube you can configure a view to show Remaining
Availability (Calculated Field in your OLAP view that equals
[Measures].[Availability]- [Measures].[Work] )
Then it is just a process issue that users pre-enter their Vacation/Holiday
times

What you are asking, I believe, is whether you can change the Max Units for
resources in a project team. The answer is yes and no. Yes, you can do so
only temporarily, but no, you cannot do it permanently. As you have found,
you lose the settings the next time you open your project. Hope this helps.
