Resource Centre, Can't see all resources!

G'day

I have managed to sync Project server 2003 with our Active Directory Service
using the Admin, Manage Users and Groups, Groups, Add group functions.

However when I select Resource Centre in PWA I can only see resources I had
added and activated during the setup of the Project Server 2003.

I expect I do not need to manually add and activate every single Windows
Account and Email address?

Any ideas would be appreciated. :)

Now posted to the correct discussion group.

What you did when you synchronized was that you synchronized and created
only server accounts. This is done through PWA and only gives user accounts
permissions to access the system. It does not make them available as
resources on projects.

If you want to create enterprise resources you need to either manually do
that through Project Professional under Tools>Enterprise Options>Open
Enterprise Resource Pool... or you can do an Active Directory synch with the
Enterprise Pool through PWA under Admin>Server Configuration and specify one
AD group that has all the resources you want to create.

If you have already successfully synchronized a group under Admin>Manage
Users and Groups>Groups then hopefully you will hopefully will not run into
any issues when synchronizing the Enterprise Resource Pool. The server
accounts and the enterprise resource accounts should link up ok.

You will then see those users in the Resource Center as this page only shows
resources in the Enterprise Resource Pool.

Hope that helps.

Jonathan,

Thankyou for your informative response. I had configured Active Directory
sync with the Enterprise pool through PWA under Admin>Server Configuration
and specified our AD group domainname\PROJECT_SERVER and wanted to change it
to all resources and hence entered domainname\ALL RECIPIENTS.

ALL RECIPIENTS is recorded in AD with a space between the two words.

After changing the AD group to point to I thought I could select through
PWA under Admin>Server Configuration>Update only when specified> Update Now.
However the option cannot be selected as it is grayed out. The only choice I
have is to use the Update every 1 days etc option and hope it works over the
weekend.

You can only run the AD synch with the "Update Now" option if you are
directly logged in on the server. Otherwise you have to run the "Update
Every 1 Day" option.

Jonathan,

Yes you are correct, I did carryout the steps on the server.

This is the error message received when I click on Update Now:

The Active Directory group failed to synchronize with the Enterprise
Resource Pool on 23/05/2005 at 3:58 PM.

I have entered domainname\ALL RECIPIENTS,
as well as domainname\"ALL RECIPIENTS"

Thinking I may need to place the two words in quotes. Odd that I can create
a group n Project Server and have it synchronised to AD groups with two words
such as "General Managers".

Still does not make sense why server configuration does not recognise and
synchronise ALL RECIPIENTS ?

Is ALL RECIPIENTS a group you created in AD? I am assuming General Managers
is a group you created in AD and that ALL RECIPIENTS is some kind of built
in group that you didn't manually create. I believe you have to manually
create a group in order for it to be recognized by Project Server.

Jonathan,

I have confirmed with our Systems Engineer, and the advise is that ALL
RECIPIENTS is manually created. As I indicated I can see all the names in
the group, my problem is that I can't see the list of names PWA Resources,
Resource Centre view. It appears to be limited to a group of users we had
included called project_server.

I noticed that under Action in the Resource Centre ""View enterprise
resources in Resource Center"" is the default selection, do I need to add or
import ""ALL RECIPIENTS"" and therefore the list of names in to the
enterprise resources pool?

How can this be done without having to import resource from projects that
don;t exist in the first place?

If enterprise resources could only be seen while they are allocated a task
in a project, why are not the current resources allocated not included in the
Resource Centre view?

Maybe I am asking too much of MS Project 2003.

I have attempted use the Microsoft instructions as follows, but end up with
the Validate Enterprise Resources dialog box.

On the Tools menu, point to Enterprise Options, and then click Open
Enterprise Resource Pool.
Click Open/Add.
Make an erroneous change to a checked-out enterprise resource, or add an
already-existing resource.
Click Save .
The Validate Enterprise Resources dialog box appears, indicating the invalid
data that caused the error
